What is maxilary arch?

The maxillary arch is the upper arch of teeth and bones in the mouth. It is formed by the maxilla bone and the surrounding soft tissues. The maxillary arch plays an important role in chewing, speaking, and facial appearance. It supports the upper row of teeth and provides the necessary infrastructure for the upper lip, cheek, and nasal cavity. The maxillary arch contains 16 teeth, including eight incisors, four canines, and eight premolars and molars. It is the largest and most stable of the two dental arches and is vital for proper oral health and facial aesthetics. Various dental and maxillofacial procedures, including orthodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery, may require modifications or interventions in the maxillary arch.
